What is a Tracking Link?

A tracking link in affiliate marketing refers to a unique URL that contains an identifier that is used to track clicks and purchases for commissions. Some key points about tracking links:

  • A Tracking link allows affiliates to get credit for leading traffic to a merchant's site. The links contain a unique ID tied to the affiliate so purchases can be attributed.

  • When someone clicks on an affiliate's tracking link and takes an action like making a purchase, the affiliate gets a commission on that sale.

  • Affiliate networks provide affiliates with their unique tracking links to promote merchant offers. Affiliates simply copy and share their assigned links.

  • Using a tracking link is crucial for affiliates to properly monitor their traffic, referrals and get credited for commissions they've earned. Without a tracking link, the affiliate won't get paid.

  • A Tracking link allows merchants to analyse data like conversion rates for each affiliate's traffic and optimize their affiliate programs.

In Affelios, we take this a step further by allowing the affiliate to create multiple trackers. These can be used to create unique tracking links for specific pages, or other sources such as ads, social media etc...

There are multiple ways to obtain a Tracking Link within the platform, all of which rely on first configuring a Tracker. You can find trackers by clicking on Trackers in the left-hand navigation menu.

Adding a Tracker

Creating and Managing Traffic Sources

If you do not need to create a Traffic Source, you can skip ahead to step 7.

  • A traffic source allows affiliates to add their website, social media, or any other platform that drives traffic to brands.

  • A traffic source gives affiliates and program operators the ability to gain valuable insight into how valuable traffic is from a particular source.

Click on the "Create Source" button up the top right.

Provide the website that will be navigating traffic through Affelios.

Verifying a Traffic Source

  • Once a source has been added, you can optionally verify it by either adding a TXT record to your domain's DNS records or by configuring a meta tag in your website's HTML markup.

Creating a Tracker

If you've created a Traffic Source following the steps above, you will need to navigate back to creating a Tracker to continue.

  • Give your tracker a name that's easily identifiable to where this tracking link will be used, for example, "Top 10 Page."

Using a Tracker to generate a Tracking Link

  • Configure your tracker, and copy the link, once you are finished, hit the "Done" button.

  • You can reuse this tracker by clicking the "Get Link" button in the actions column of your trackers.
